Andy Polovin

Andy Polovin serves as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Tempus AI, Inc., an AI-driven precision medicine company. In this role, he oversees various legal and business issues, including the company's patent litigation strategy. His practice focuses heavily on intellectual property related to artificial intelligence, genomics, and precision medicine, particularly in the oncology diagnostics space.

Within patent litigation, Polovin, representing Tempus AI, has been involved in both asserting and defending patent rights. He is tracked as appearing on the plaintiff side in Tempus AI Inc. v. Guardant Health Inc., a case involving four U.S. patents related to genomic analysis and oncology AI that was transferred to the Northern District of California. Concurrently, Tempus AI has been a defendant in patent infringement suits brought by Guardant Health concerning DNA-based cancer testing. Further, Polovin's involvement for Tempus AI extends to PTAB proceedings, where Tempus AI has acted as a petitioner challenging Guardant Health's patents, such as in IPR2025-01434 and IPR2026-00185, concerning methods for detecting genetic variants.

Before joining Tempus AI, Polovin was General Counsel of Uptake Technologies, Inc., an AI software company for heavy industry. His career also includes experience as an Assistant United States Attorney and as an equity partner at Bartlit Beck.

Polovin earned his law degree magna cum laude from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and his undergraduate degree cum laude from Colgate University.
