Andrew Wilson

Andrew Wilson is a patent litigation attorney with a focused practice in high-tech intellectual property disputes, particularly emphasizing software-related inventions. His technical background in computer science and engineering informs his work across areas such as open source and proprietary software, cloud-hosted products (SaaS), distributed software, and machine learning and artificial intelligence systems. Wilson's practice extends to U.S. Federal District Courts, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), the International Trade Commission (ITC), and Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) Exclusion Order Enforcement Branch (EOEB).

Wilson primarily defends operating companies, aligning with Baker Botts' strong track record in defensive patent litigation. The firm's IP Litigation team is recognized for its high success rate in representing defendants in district courts and has been identified for handling a significant number of defensive patent cases nationwide. His experience includes representing DISH Technologies L.L.C. as a defendant in the tracked case, Aylo Freesites Ltd. v. DISH Technologies LLC, and related IPR proceedings before the PTAB.

Currently a Partner in Baker Botts' Washington, D.C. office, Andrew Wilson was elected to partner in January 2025, having previously served as of counsel. Before his legal career, he gained over five years of experience as a software developer, specializing in desktop and web application development. Beyond the Aylo Freesites Ltd. v. DISH Technologies LLC matter, his notable case experience also includes representing clients in AG 18, LLC v. DRAFTKINGS INC. at the PTAB and in Certain Fitness Devices, Streaming Components Thereof, and Systems Containing Same before the ITC.

Wilson is actively involved in PTAB proceedings, representing clients in Inter Partes Review (IPR) matters. For instance, he served as counsel for DISH Technologies L.L.C. in several IPRs filed by Aylo Freesites Ltd. and fuboTV Media Inc., challenging various patents. He earned his J.D. with honors from George Washington University Law School in 2013, following an M.S. in Computer Science from George Washington University in 2010 and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Delaware in 2007. He is admitted to the District of Columbia Bar, Virginia State Bar, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
