Andrew S. Ong

Andrew S. Ong is a highly experienced patent litigator focusing on complex intellectual property disputes, including patent infringement and trade secret litigation. His practice spans diverse technology areas such as network devices, design automation software, data storage, and semiconductor chips. His representative matters demonstrate experience with technology relating to digital ad campaigns on TVs and mobile devices, business analytics, logic simulation tools, and semiconductor device fabrication.

While the tracked case appearances for Andrew Ong primarily show plaintiff-side representation, his broader practice includes significant defense work. He has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in federal courts, including securing a jury verdict of non-infringement for a defendant and achieving summary judgments and dismissals in other cases.

Andrew Ong joined King & Spalding as a partner in August 2025, bringing over eight years of experience from Goodwin Procter, where he was also a partner. Prior to that, he spent five years as an associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Among his notable cases, Andrew Ong represented Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. in patent infringement litigation against Advanced Integrated Circuit Process LLC, matters that have included related inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the USPTO. He has also achieved favorable outcomes for clients such as invalidating asserted patents under 35 U.S.C. § 101 on early motions to dismiss and through IPRs, and securing a Federal Circuit invalidation of a patent after a district court's summary judgment of non-infringement. He has extensive experience with proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes reviews and reexaminations.

He earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law and holds an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and computer science from UC Berkeley. He is admitted to the State Bar of California.
