Amanda K. Antons

Amanda K. Antons, Ph.D., is a patent litigation partner at Dechert LLP, specializing in disputes within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Her practice encompasses biologics litigation, Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) cases, and related trade secret matters. Dr. Antons handles a wide array of technologies, including monoclonal antibodies, gene therapies using AAV viral vectors, aflibercept, CRISPR, peptides, DNA sequencing, and small-molecule therapeutics, drawing on her doctoral background in Microbiology & Immunology.

Dr. Antons demonstrates a balanced practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Her experience includes defending operating companies against patent infringement claims, as seen in cases such as Unified Patents v. Genzyme Corp. and Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. v. Genzyme Corp., where she served as Counsel and Backup Counsel, respectively. She also represents innovators as plaintiffs in asserting patent rights.

Her notable engagements include a key role in Amgen's "Patent Dance" disclosures and securing a complete patent interference victory for Merck Animal Health at the USPTO, which led to a global settlement. Dr. Antons was trial counsel for Merck in a successful defense against Sanofi-Aventis concerning an insulin glargine product and represented Amgen in securing a US$70 million jury verdict (affirmed by the Federal Circuit) against Hospira regarding an EPOGEN® biosimilar. She also represented Genzyme, a Sanofi subsidiary, as lead counsel in multiple patent infringement actions in the District of Delaware and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) against Novartis Gene Therapy, which resulted in a global settlement related to ZOLGENSMA® gene therapy technology.

Dr. Antons is experienced in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, European Patent Office (EPO) proceedings, and other contentious patent office matters, including interferences. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from DePaul University and holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from Vanderbilt University, along with a B.S. from Iowa State University.
