Ali Razai

Ali Razai is a first-chair intellectual property litigator specializing in high-stakes disputes, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, false advertising, and unfair competition. His practice encompasses a wide array of technology areas, notably biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, green technology, consumer products, and mechanical devices. Razai's technical background as a molecular biologist and prior experience as an antibody engineer augment his ability to navigate complex IP challenges, particularly within the life sciences sector.

Currently a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Mr. Razai joined the firm in February 2025, bringing with him a five-partner IP litigation team from his previous firm, Knobbe Martens, where he was also a partner and served on its executive committee. He is active in federal district courts, federal appellate courts, and the International Trade Commission (ITC). While the tracked case shows him representing a plaintiff, his broader practice includes both asserting and defending intellectual property for operating companies, as exemplified by his work for lululemon against Nike.

Mr. Razai has a strong record of notable outcomes. He served as lead counsel for HydraFacial LLC in a patent infringement case against MIRAmedtech SP. Z.O.O. et al., securing a permanent injunction in district court and achieving a Limited Exclusion Order and Cease and Desist Orders for HydraFacial at the ITC. He successfully represented lululemon in a patent dispute with Nike concerning "Flyknit" shoe technology, which involved fending off patent claims, a favorable jury verdict for lululemon, and the subsequent invalidation of one of Nike's patents by the PTAB. He also led Spectrum Solutions to victories in multiple inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and secured a summary judgment of non-infringement in a related district court case.

Mr. Razai regularly appears before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), with significant experience in IPR proceedings. He is admitted to the California State Bar and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned his B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law.
