Alan S. Nadel

It is with respect that we note Alan S. Nadel, a founding partner of Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP, passed away in June 2023. He was a respected leader in the Philadelphia intellectual property community for decades.

Mr. Nadel's practice encompassed a broad range of patent law, including litigation, prosecution, and licensing. His technical focus was on bioscience, chemical, and mechanical inventions. His work in biotechnology involved preparing and prosecuting patent applications for genes, proteins, and DNA-derived products for clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies and academic institutions. While his career was noted for landmark patent prosecution work, such as for the Super Soaker water toy and the Prince oversized tennis racquet, his patent litigation experience is represented in the tracked data by a single appearance as local counsel for the defense in Neomedia Technologies, Inc. v. Symbol Technologies, Inc.

Mr. Nadel was a founding partner of Panitch Schwarze Jacobs & Nadel in 1983. The firm later merged with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in 1999 before re-establishing itself as Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP in 2008, where he served as Partner Emeritus in his later years. He was highly active in the professional community, serving as a past president of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr. Nadel earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and his law degree from George Washington University.
