Alan Littmann

Alan Littmann is a lead trial attorney at Goldman Ismail Tomaselli Brennan & Baum LLP, specializing in complex patent and intellectual property litigation. His practice encompasses a broad range of scientific and technical areas, including computer networking, medical devices, pharmaceutical products, video streaming, software design, solar cells, computer hardware, wireless communications, and audio technologies. While his firm profile indicates experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, the tracked cases and highlighted matters primarily showcase his work defending operating companies against patent infringement allegations.

Littmann joined Goldman Ismail in 2010 as a partner in the Chicago office, having previously been a partner at Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP. Among his notable patent litigation engagements, Littmann served as lead counsel for Apple Inc. in Vampire Labs LLC v. Apple Inc., a case that reached a settlement in principle by early 2026. He was also co-lead trial counsel for a Fortune 10 American technology company in a patent infringement dispute involving wireless headphones, communications, and audio products, which settled favorably before trial. Further, he has defended Edwards Lifesciences in multi-patent infringement litigation concerning transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) products and represented MLB Advanced Media in patent disputes related to wireless streaming. In an intellectual property arbitration, he secured a unanimous ruling in favor of his client, a multi-national pharmaceutical company.

Littmann has experience with Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, having represented Apple Inc. as counsel in an appeal to the Federal Circuit concerning an IPR decision. He earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of The Law Review, and subsequently clerked for Judge Frank H. Easterbrook on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
